Gold price in Uganda: how it’s actually worked out.

There’s no single “Uganda gold price” that applies to everyone. It depends on the international spot price, your gold’s tested purity, and the shilling exchange rate at the time. Here’s how each piece fits together.

1. The international spot price

Gold is traded globally and priced in US dollars per troy ounce. This spot price moves throughout each trading day based on global markets. It’s the starting point for any local price, but it’s not the final number a seller in Kampala actually receives.

2. The exchange rate

The dollar spot price is converted to Ugandan shillings at the prevailing exchange rate, which itself shifts day to day.

3. Your gold’s tested purity

This is the step most online “gold price calculators” skip, and it’s the one that matters most to what you actually get paid. Raw nuggets, dust, scrap jewellery, and bars all carry different purity levels: 24-karat gold is priced very differently from 18-karat jewellery mixed with other metals. That’s why we test with fire assay or XRF before naming any figure. The price is calculated against your gold’s confirmed purity, not an assumed karat.

Why we don’t publish a running “today’s price” number

Because spot price moves during the day and purity varies piece to piece, a single number published on a website would be misleading for most sellers by the time they walked in. Instead, we confirm the applicable rate at the point of testing, using the day’s market price and your gold’s actual tested purity, so what you’re quoted is accurate to your specific gold, not a generic estimate.
